§ Brigadier-General Clifton Brownasked the Minister of Supply why it is still necessary for his officers to requisition amenity soft wood timber from estates; and whether, in cases where an estate has already been largely denuded of its growing trees, the owner may appeal to the Minister of Town and Country Planning for protection against indiscriminate slaughter of woods before his officials take action.
§ Sir A. DuncanI regret that it is still necessary to acquire large quantities of standing timber in this country in order to meet essential needs. I can, however, assure my hon. and gallant Friend that we co-operate closely with the Minister of Town and Country Planning and the Secretary of State for Scotland in order to preserve, so far as the situation allows, the amenities of the countryside.
