HC Deb 13 March 1945 vol 409 c37W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Minister of Works whether in the case of unestablished civil servants employed by his Ministry, any scheme has been propounded for a contributed pension similar to schemes common in industry; and whether, as the payment of a gratuity after fifteen years' service of a sum equal to one week's pay for every year the man has served the Ministry is inadequate and below commercial and industrial practice, he will review the conditions since many men now employed will be retired being over age and the opportunity will be open for the employment of ex-Servicemen.

Mr. Peake

I have been asked to reply. Unestablished civil servants employed by the Ministry of Works are, in common with all other unestablished civil servants, subject to the Superannuation Acts, 18341935, and there is no power to vary the provision of these Acts except by legislation. If my hon. Friend will supply me with particulars of commercial and industrial practice relating to employees of a kind comparable with those to whom he refers, I should be glad to have them.
