HL Deb 15 June 1945 vol 136 c648WA
LORD AILWYN

asked His Majesty's Government whether they will state the circumstances in which Robert Steinmetz, 94454, X Camp, Isle of Man, was sentenced to imprisonment; whether he is still confined; and under what Defence Regulation this Order was made.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (THE EARL OF MUNSTER)

Mr. Steinmetz is detained under Article 12 (5A) of the Aliens Order. He is a subject of Luxemburg who on his arrival in this country in 1941 was detained for examination and further inquiry. After considering the report of the Advisory Committee which deals with cases of this sort, the Secretary of State decided that his detention was necessary for securing the defence of the realm until the war situation permitted his deportation. The deportation order which has been made against him will be executed as soon as arrangements can be made for his journey to Luxemburg.
