§ Lady Apsleyasked the Secretary of State for War how many British prisoners of war and internees remain in Japanese hands.
§ Sir J. GriggThe Japanese are very slow in notifying us of men they hold as prisoners of war and of those who die in captivity. It is, however, estimated that 43,000 United Kingdom troops and Europeans serving in Colonial Forces are now prisoners in Japanese hands. They also hold about 19,000 civilian internees, most of them from the United Kingdom.
