ThorneycroftOn the outbreak of war in 1939 privately-owned wagons, except those of certain specially exempted types, were requisitioned so that they should be operated in a pool with railway-owned wagons. This has enabled substantial operating economies to be effected and has greatly helped the railways in dealing with the increased traffic. New requisitioning Orders have to be made from time to time to cover wagons built since the date of the original Order.
