HL Deb 06 June 1945 vol 136 c446WA
LORD BARNBY

asked His Majesty's Government whether to facilitate Anglo-American trade and industrial development in Great Britain, it is possible to speed up air mail communication from Great Britain to the United States of America, instituting if necessary a surcharge priority for commercial communication accredited by the Board of Trade or the Department of Overseas Trade.

EARL FORTESCUE

Apart from censorship, delays in transmission times across the Atlantic have been due to the adverse weather conditions obtaining in winter as well as to restrictions on aircraft capacity. I am glad to say that adequate aircraft capacity has recently been available, and with summer flying conditions and cessation of censorship I anticipate a marked improvement in transmission times for air mail.

House adjourned at twenty minutes past four o'clock.
