§ Mr. Ellis Smithasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether it is the intention of the Government to set up at an early date a commission to deal with awards to inventors, as was done after the last war; and whether he will give an assurance that the interests of the man with the first idea, or who is responsible for developing a known invention, will be properly safeguarded.

§ Sir J. AndersonYes, Sir; proposals for the appointment of a Royal Commission will be put forward in the near future. With regard to the last part of the Question, it will be proposed that the Commission should be given powers similar to those of the Royal Commission which heard claims of this character after the last war; these powers will enable the Commission to obtain all the evidence which they consider necessary for the proper adjudication of claims, including evidence relating to such matters as those to which the hon. Member refers.
