Major Lloyd GeorgeAccording to the latest figures available, pithead baths have been established at 366 collieries, employing about 445,000 workers, or 63 per cent. of all the workers in the industry. The total number of collieries without pithead baths is 1,416, including 776 with 50 or fewer workers. The number of workers without bathing facilities is about 263,000, or 37 per cent. of the total number employed.
