HC Deb 20 February 1945 vol 408 c650W
Sir R. Young

asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that the extra ration of cheese which farm workers receive owing to the nature of their work, is denied to small farmer employers, who do exactly the same kind of work; that such denial is due to the fact that they cannot produce an unemployment insurance card; and whether he will take steps to remove this grievance.

Colonel Llewellin

The special cheese ration is not granted on account of the nature of the work performed but is allowed to certain categories of employees for whom it is impossible to provide canteens or other catering facilities. I regret that I cannot extend this concession to the small farmer, whose home is usually situate where his work is.
