§ Mr. Thorneasked the Minister of Health if he has considered the case of Peter 1936W Baldock, a Surrey boy evacuated to Wallasey, who was admitted to hospital suffering from shock and maltreatment; if he is aware that the persons with whom Peter Baldock was living have been fined in the courts; what steps he has taken to prevent such maltreatment of an evacuee again taking place; and if he is satisfied that the death of this boy's brother, last November, was in no way due to maltreatment.
§ Miss HorsbrughMy right hon. Friend has seen the Press reports of this distressing case and has made preliminary inquiries. The Baldock children were not evacuated under the normal official arrangements, but my right hon. Friend has called urgently for a full report on the case and will communicate with my hon. Friend as soon as possible. In the meantime he would prefer not to comment further except that he wishes to express his keen sympathy for the boy and the parents.
