§ Colonel Dodds - Parkerasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will give an assurance that His Majesty's Government will agree to no change in the status of the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan without previously ascertaining the wishes of the people of the Sudan through constitutional channels.
§ Squadron-Leader Donnerasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the assurances given to the inhabitants of the South African Protectorates that no transfer to the Union will take place without their consent, he will now give an assurance that the present constitutional status of the Sudan will not be modified or changed as a result of any negotiations with the Government of Egypt, unless an unequivocal assent to such a change is freely given by a majority of the tribes of the Sudan.
Mr. McNeilHis Majesty's Government consider that the procedure suggested by the hon. and gallant Members is the right one, and should be followed.
