HC Deb 17 December 1945 vol 417 c1058W
Mr. Lavers

asked the Minister of War Transport if he is aware that the delay in the granting of licences for new lorries, to quarrying contractors in County-Durham will lead to the closing down of quarries; and if he will take immediate steps to expedite the issue of licences to applicants.

Mr. Barnes

If my hon. Friend will send me the names of the applicants, I will look into the matter.

Sir W. Wakefield

asked the Minister of War Transport if he is aware that his decision that a licence for a heavy goods vehicle will only be granted three months prior to the delivery of the vehicle is holding up the planning of forward production, with consequent dislocation to the industry; and what steps he is taking to remedy this unsatisfactory position.

Mr. Barnes

No, Sir, I do not think that the licensing system has had the effect suggested. I have decided to terminate the system of licences to acquire new vehicles of any type as from the end of this year.
