HC Deb 17 December 1945 vol 417 cc1063-4W
Mr. Farthing

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, during these winter months, it will be possible to issue extra coupons for boots and shoes for young children.

Sir S. Cripps

No, Sir. I have already made as generous a provision for children as present supplies permit.

Mr. J. Thomas

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will take immediate steps to remedy the shortage of footwear and Wellington boots, especially in the case of children, in Herefordshire.

Sir S. Cripps

As regards the supply of children's leather footwear, I would refer the hon. Member to the replies given to several hon. Members on 3rd December, and to my hon. Friend the Member for West Nottingham (Mr. O'Brien) on 26th November. As regards rubber footwear, arrangements have been made to increase the production of children's Wellingtons, and, in addition, one million pairs will have been imported by the end of this year. I have no evidence to show that Herefordshire is not receiving its fair share of these supplies.
