HC Deb 12 December 1945 vol 417 c572W
Mr. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why the newspapers and publications of the Communist Party are banned in Trinidad; and when the ban will be lifted.

Mr. George Hall

I am not aware of any general ban on the newspapers and publications of the Communist Party, but I understand that the importation into Trinidad of certain publications of a Communist character was prohibited under a Proclamation of 1932. I do not know why importation of these publications was considered undesirable at that time, but I have asked the Governor for a report on the matter and will communicate further with the hon. Member when I have received his reply.
