HC Deb 12 December 1945 vol 417 c565W
Brigadier Low

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air what percentage of the strength of R.A.F. units in the United Kingdom will be permitted to travel on leave so that they may be at home during Christmas; approximately how many men and women this amounts to; and whether the same regulations apply to all units throughout the United Kingdom.

Mr. Strachey

Just over 12 per cent. of the Royal Air Force from Units in the United Kingdom will be allowed to travel by rail so as to be at home at Christmas. This will amount to about 65,000 men and women. But more will get home than this since they will use other means of travel. The same regulations apply to all R.A.F. Units except for some training establishments, which are closed down altogether at Christmas.
