HC Deb 11 December 1945 vol 417 cc364-5W
Major McCallum

asked the Minister of War Transport if, in view of the release of a number of coastal shipping vessels from war service and of the repeated representations made by farmer's and other inhabitants in the area, improvements will be made in the steamer services to the Ross of Mull and the Island of Iona, and in the road haulage services on the Isle of Mull between the Sound of Mull ports and the south-western part of the Island.

Mr. Barnes

Arrangements have now been completed for the s.s. "Hebrides" to be released to her owners. This will enable them to restore to its prewar strength the passenger, cattle and cargo services to the Ross of Mull and the Island of Iona, maintained by the "Dunara Castle" and the "Challenger." In addition I have made arrangements for additional cargo vessels to be allocated to the service as required.
