Freemanasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the needs of the mass of the peoples in the Continent of Europe, he will appoint a small committee forthwith to inquire into what is already being done by U.N.R.R.A. and other organisations and to see what further steps can be taken to ameliorate the suffering of millions.
§ Mr. BevinNo, Sir, I see no necessity for appointing a new committee for this purpose. His Majesty's Government are in constant touch with what is being done to relieve the sufferings of the peoples of Europe. U.N.R.R.A.'s operations are reported monthly to the Committee of the Council for Europe, on which His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom are represented, and between meetings close contact is maintained through official channels. I am satisfied that His Majesty's Government are kept fully informed of the needs of the situation, and it is their constant endeavour to ensure that all such action is taken as the situation requires.
