HC Deb 04 December 1945 vol 416 cc2287-8W
Mr. Gilzean

asked the Minister of Works the number of persons in the various branches of the building industry in Edinburgh; and how many of these are employed in corporation housing schemes.

Mr. Tomlinson

The available information does not enable me to give the number of building trade operatives in Edinburgh classified according to the various branches of the industry in which they are employed. The total number of insured building trade operatives in Edinburgh at July, 1945, was approximately 4,000. The number of men employed at 30th November on the erection of permanent and temporary houses and on the advance preparation of housing sites for the Corporation was 636.
