§ Mr. George Thomasasked the Minister of National Insurance how many persons resident in the City of Cardiff receive the full supplementary pension added to their normal old age pension; how many applications were rejected in 1943 and 1944;and how many applicants were declared disqualified during the last financial year from receiving any old age pension at all.
§ Mr. J. GriffithsAs supplementary pensions are adjusted to the needs of the individual there is no particular amount which can be said to be "the full supplementary pension." In the Board's administrative area, which is nearly coterminous with the County Borough of Cardiff, there were current at the end of July 4,865 supplementary pensions of varying amounts covering the needs of about 5,940 old age pensioners and widows over the age of 60 in receipt of contributory widows' pensions. In the same area approximately 90 applications were rejected in each of the years 1943 and 1944 on the ground of failure to prove need. I regret that figures as regards unsuccessful claims for pensions are not available for particular areas.
