asked the President of the Board of Trade how many applications have been received during 1944 and 1945 from ex-Servicemen resident in the city of Cardiff for licences to set up in business on their own; how many such applications have been granted; and how many are still outstanding.

Figures for the city of Cardiff are not readily available, but the following are the figures for the South Wales Region. Between 1st January, 1944, and 31st July, 1945,62 licences under the Location of Retail Businesses Order to open shops were granted to ex-Servicemen and 19 were refused. On 18th August, 1945, 22 applications by ex-Servicemen were outstanding.
