§ Major Wyattasked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he will now give instructions that soldiers serving in India Command may, like soldiers in the 14th Army, write freely to their Members of Parliament without persuasion being used as now under the instructions of G.H.Q., India, to prevent them.
§ Mr. A. HendersonI am not aware of any difference in procedure between India Command and S.E.A.C. in this matter. I would remind the hon. and gallant Gentleman that the proper channel for the ventilation of grievances in the Army is laid down in King's Regulations, and in their own interests as well as in the interests of the Service generally, soldiers ought not to write to their M.Ps. about such grievances until they have attempted without success to ventilate them through the usual channels. It is possible that the Commander in Chief in India has reminded personnel in the India Command of these considerations.
