Mr. Douglas

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what quantity of coal has been exported from Great Britain during the current year and to what destinations.

Mr. Shinwell

During the six months ending June, 1945, most of the coal exported, other than low quality coal of little use in this country, was consigned on military account and as such detailed figures are not available, but the total amounted to 1,591,000 tons. In addition, the following quantities, which were comprised mainly of low quality coal or coal for bunkers abroad, were exported during the above period:

Mr. Warbey

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power how many tons of coal were exported from the United Kingdom to Spain during each of the 12 months ended July, 1945.

Mr. Shinwell

During the 12 months ended June, 1945, low quality coal of little use in this country was exported to Spain as follows: 1,686 tons in November, 1944; 3,726 tons in June, 1945. The Official Trade Returns for July, 1945, are not yet available.
