HC Deb 17 August 1945 vol 413 cc190-1W
Mr. Longden

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the insanitary and verminous conditions into which many working-class houses have fallen; and will he consult with the Minister of Labour with a view to the release of suitable individuals to increase the numbers of inspectors and issue an order to local authorities instructing them in investigate immediately the circumstances in their low-grade housing areas with a view to eliminating these evils.

Mr. Aneurin Bevan

I am aware of the need for improvement of conditions of many working-class houses, and of the present shortage of staff necessary to enable local authorities to carry out their duties of inspection. Steps are being taken to increase the number of inspectors available to the authorities.
