§ Mr. Rhys Daviesasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that the officers of the Allied Forces, on the spot, appointed as mayor of the liberated German town of Kornelimunster a leading member of the Nazi Party; whether this policy is to be pursued; and whether he will give an assurance that no member of the present German Government will be appointed by the Allies to responsible positions inside liberated Germany.
§ Mr. A. HendersonThis is a matter for the Supreme Allied Commander. He has had clear directions which provide that all leading Nazis shall be removed from any position of authority in conquered Germany and excluded from such positions in future. I understand from S.H.A.E.F. that the individual in question was not a leading Nazi—indeed there is no evidence that he was ever a member of the Nazi Party.
