Major Lloyd GeorgeThe salary of Sir Ernest Gowers as Chairman of the Coal Commission has always been £7,000 per annum. Since the beginning of the war he has also, with the consent and approval of my predecessors and myself, exercised the functions of Civil Defence Regional Commissioner for London, a post which carries a remuneration of £2,500 per annum. By arrangement with the Ministry of Home Security, however, Sir Ernest's total salary has remained at £7,000.
