§ Mr. Wootton-Daviesasked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether, in boring for oil, any other minerals have been found; and whether official announcements of such discoveries are being made for public information.
Major Lloyd GeorgeThe answer to the first part of the Question is "Yes, Sir." As regards the second part, Section 9 of the Petroleum Production Act, 1934, which applies the provisions of Section 23 of the Mining Industry Act, 1926, to petroleum borings, requires persons who bore for oil to supply information of the boring and, if necessary, furnish specimens of the strata passed through, to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. The conditions under which this information is furnished are governed by the provisions of Section 23 of the Act of 1926, to which I would refer my hon. Friend.
