§ Sir W. Smithersasked the Minister of Food if he will remove forthwith all territorial district restrictions on the sale of apples in Great Britain.
§ Colonel LlewellinNo, Sir. As my hon. Friend is aware, the crop of apples in England and Wales this year is, owing to frost damage, not more than can be easily absorbed in Area 1 (namely, England and Wales less the four Northern English counties); the exportable surplus from Northern Ireland is sufficient to supply Scotland and the four Northern English counties on a similar scale of supply. The Order was imposed to save cross transport of apples, and in view of present transport conditions it is a necessary Order.
