§ Mr. R. Morganasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the conference considering the problems which arise in connection with the return of prisoners of war and civilians from Malaya and Hong Kong will deal with the special position of nationalities other than British such as Chinese and Indian.
§ Colonel StanleyYes, Sir, the conference is concerned with members of the local Volunteer Defence Forces who are prisoners of war and with civilian residents of those territories without regard to race. My hon. Friend will understand that virtually all the Indians and many of the Chinese are British subjects.
§ Mr. R. Morganasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the names of the members of the representative committee 1301W examining the problems arising in connection with the return of prisoners of war from Malaya and Hong Kong; and what are the interests they are assumed to represent.
§ Colonel StanleyI would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Wallsend (Miss Ward) and to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Portsmouth, South (Sir J. Lucas) on Wednesday, 4th October.
