HC Deb 04 October 1944 vol 403 c947W
Major Lloyd

asked the President of the Board of Trade what complaints he has received from local authorities in Scotland on the subject of short weights in wholesale sales; and whether he proposes to take any action to stop this practice, if necessary by extending the Sale of Food (Weights and Measures) Act to all wholesale dealings.

Captain Waterhouse

No complaint of short weight in wholesale transactions has been received from any local authority in Scotland. Representations have been made by various bodies urging the extension of the provisions of the Sale of Food (Weights and Measures) Act, 1926, to such transactions, and these will receive full consideration when revision of the Weights and Measures Acts becomes possible after the war. It would not be expedient to deal with any individual aspects of weights and measures administration in advance of general legislation.
