HC Deb 04 October 1944 vol 403 cc957-8W
Mr. Mander

asked the Attorney-General the present position with regard to the work of the United Nations War Crimes Commission, and whether it is proposed to create some form of joint or inter-Allied tribunal to deal with cases which cannot conveniently or effectively be tried before national courts.

The Attorney-General

The United Nations War Crimes Commission is steadily pursuing its task of collecting evidence of the perpetration of war crimes and will keep the Governments of the United Nations informed of the results of its labours in this connection. As regards the second part of my hon. Friend's Question, I understand that the Commission has this matter under active consideration; it will be for the Governments of the United Nations to consider what action is to be taken when they have received the Commission's recommendations on the subject. I would remind my hon. Friend of the terms of the Moscow Declaration that those guilty of war crimes in occupied countries would be sent back for trial to the countries where the crimes were committed.
