HC Deb 04 October 1944 vol 403 cc951-2W
Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether immediate consideration can be given to an adjustment in the wages and conditions of Indian shop assistants in Mauritius to meet the cost of living and other rising expenses of these workers.

Colonel Stanley

The Labour Advisory Board of Mauritius has recently recommended minimum wages for the shopping trade. I am awaiting a report from the Governor of action taken on the Board's recommendation.
