Friend to the reply I gave on the Lord President's behalf to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Yardley (Mr. Salt) on 31st October last, of which I am sending him a copy. The research work on coal is directed towards its efficient utilisation, including the development of new uses for coal. The work of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research on utilisation of fuel is under the general guidance of the Fuel Research Board, of which the membership and general terms of reference are as follows:
