Captain Shawasked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware that in Scotland the Youth Organisation, especially in winter, find it practically impossible to carry on their ordinary activities because their scout halls and church halls have been requisitioned by the military; and will he do his utmost to release premises so that the Youth Organisation may function efficiently.
§ Sir J. GriggI am aware of the importance of releasing halls for youth activities throughout the country, and every effort is made to do so where military requirements permit; it must be borne in mind, however, that priority must be given, where possible, to release hotels and schools and property which will ease the present housing situation. If my hon. and gallant Friend will give me particulars of any specific case he has in mind I will have inquiries made.
