§ Sir E. Graham-Littleasked the Minister of Education how many teachers are now available to carry out the provisions of the Education Act; how many are still engaged in war service; and how many he estimates will be required to operate the new Act.
§ Mr. ButlerThe total number of teachers in schools within my Department's administration is approximately 200,000. It is estimated that the number of teachers who have left the schools to serve in His Majesty's Forces or on other war work is of the order of 22,000, and that a total of 270,000 teachers may eventually be required to operate the new Act.
