HC Deb 04 May 1944 vol 399 cc1577-8W
Sir C. Edwards

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many complaints he has received from Blackwood and Bargoed about the shortage of blankets and floor matting; and if he will make inquiries about this shortage and take steps to remedy same.

Mr. Dalton

I have received one complaint this year about the shortage of blankets in Blackwood and Bargoed, and none about the shortage of matting. Recent investigations by my officers show that blankets have been reaching both towns at a rate, per head of the population, above the average for the country as a whole. The amount of coir matting that can be made available in the shops is not large, but I have asked distributors to send most of their limited supplies to areas, including Wales, where there is a specially heavy demand on account of stone floors.
