HC Deb 02 March 1944 vol 397 cc1590-1W
Sir W. Jenkins

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether any action is being taken, in a district of which he has been informed, where new storage buildings have been erected for such buildings to be used in post-war for light industries and factory purposes; and whether preparations are made for reestablishing industries in the old buildings that were formerly in action, now used for storage purposes, in order to find employment for demobilised men and women.

Mr. Dalton

As I have stated on previous occasions, it is the policy of His Majesty's Government to create and maintain a greater diversity of industry and a more balanced employment in areas, such as that to which my hon. Friend refers, which before the war were too much dependent on one or two industries. I can assure my hon. Friend that I shall do all I can to see that any buildings in such areas, which are suitable for production, are made available for that purpose as soon as possible after the war.
