HC Deb 21 June 1944 vol 401 c208W
Mr. R. Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that, contrary to the provisions of Colonial Regulations No. 66, an assistant teacher, Miss May E. Christian, of the Roseau Girls' School, Dominica, has been dismissed from the public service of that Colony without having been officially informed of any charges against her and being given an opportunity of being heard in her own defence as provided for in the same regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Colonel Stanley

Miss Christian was informed of the charges against her and was given full opportunity of being heard in her own defence. In accordance with the Colonial Regulations the matter was investigated by the Administrator with the aid of the head of the officer's Department; and she was dismissed on the advice of the Executive Council in September, 1941. I received a petition about this case in June, 1943, and after careful consideration of the representations made on behalf of Miss Christian, informed the Governor that I was not prepared to intervene.
