HC Deb 07 June 1944 vol 400 cc1360-1W
Mr. Hogg

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty how many forms for application for registration for the Parliamentary franchise have been printed and how many issued; and whether he can give an assurance that all ranks have been informed that unless this form is completed they will have no vote at the next General Election even if they were on the old register.

Mr. Alexander

I can assure my hon. Friend that the number of forms which are being printed and issued is more than sufficient for every man and woman in the Naval Service. As regards the second part of the Question, the Fleet Order promulgating the regulations and the procedure to be followed emphasises that unless personnel complete the declaration forms they will be unable to vote at the next election even if their names were on the old register. In addition, as I informed' the hon. Member for Eddisbury (Mr. Loverseed) on 3rd May, the Order provides for officers to be detailed to explain the procedure and to give assistance in the completion of the forms.
