asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the Income Tax payable by a single person on an investment income of £200 per annum in the years 1939–40 and 1943–44 respectively.

Sir J. Anderson

The Income Tax payable by a single person whose total income was £200, all investment income, was £11 13s. 4d. for 1939–40 and £39 for 1943–44. £6 10s. of the latter sum ranks as a Post-War Credit.

The Income Tax payable by a married couple without children, and having a total income of £200, all investment income, was £2 6s. 8d. for 1939–40, and £19 10s. for 1943–44. Of the latter sum £g 15s. ranks as a Post-War Credit.
