§ Mr. R. Morganasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to the shortage of potatoes in East Africa; why potatoes do not keep well in the Colony; and what progress is being made with dehydrating them.
§ Colonel StanleyI have seen a Press report of a potato shortage in Kenya, but I have had no official reports of such a shortage in East Africa. Potato storage presents special difficulties in tropical climates owing to high temperatures. Two dehydration plants for vegetables, including potatoes, are working in Kenya, but the bulk of the produce goes at present to the Army. I am bringing my hon. Friend's Question to the notice of the Governors in East Africa.
