HC Deb 06 July 1944 vol 401 c1347W
Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will give a list of the dependencies whose legislation still fails to satisfy Section 1 (2a) of the Colonial Development and Welfare Act, 1940; and what further steps are being taken.

Colonel Stanley

The following is the list, exclusive of those territories wholly or partly in enemy occupation:

Bahamas, Bermuda, Ceylon, Gibraltar, Malta, Palestine, Trans-Jordan, Somaliland and Tonga.

I understand that the question of legislating to satisfy Section 1 (2a) of the Colonial Development and Welfare Act, 1940, is under consideration by the Governments of the Bahamas, Gibraltar, Malta, Palestine, Trans-Jordan and Somaliland. None of the other Governments concerned have any present intention of applying for assistance under the Act.
