§ Sir W. Waylandasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the figure of £528,704, as being the net receipts from Land Tax for the year ended 31st March, 1943, represents the actual money available to the Treasury or whether it requires to be reduced by Income Tax at 10s. in the £ on account of the fact that Land Tax is deductible before arriving at income taxable under Schedule A and by costs of collection.
§ Sir J. AndersonThe figure of £528,704 represents the actual amount of Land Tax collected by the Inland Revenue Department in the year ended 31st March, 1943. I regret that I am not in a position to estimate to what extent the yield of Income Tax under Schedule A is reduced as a result of the deduction of Land Tax from the Schedule A assessments, or to distinguish the cost of collection of Land Tax from the cost of the duties of the Inland Revenue Department generally.
