§ Mr. A. Edwardsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if any principle has been agreed upon regarding the wish of some members of the Allied Forces to remain in the British Isles after the war;
(2) if he is considering making arrangements to allow members of the Allied Forces who do not wish to return to their native countries after the war and who have a trade or profession to take up employment here.
§ Mr. H. MorrisonAs I have previously stated, it is not possible at present to announce plans as to the course to be taken after the war with regard to foreigners who have been admitted to this country on a temporary basis and have388W during the war rendered service to the United Nations either in the Armed Forces or in other ways; but in any case I do not think it would be possible to treat the wish of the individual as the overriding consideration. Account will have to be taken of the national interest and of any international plans for the resettlement of the many classes of people who have been driven from their homes.
