HC Deb 09 February 1944 vol 396 cc1778-9W
Mr. R. Davies

asked the Secretary of State for War if he is now able to state whether any trade unions are functioning in the territories liberated by the Allied Forces on Italian soil; and whether they are free to function on the lines of the British model.

Mr. A. Henderson

The information at present available is incomplete, but I know that over 100 non-Fascist labour unions are functioning in the parts of Italy liberated by the Allied Forces. These unions are free to function on democratic lines, although I am not in a position to say that they follow exactly the British model. They are, however, officially recognised for purposes of collective bargaining.
