§ Mr. E. BevinThe total number of persons employed in my Department in June, 1939, was 31,589, and at 1st January, 1944, the latest date for which figures are available, the number was 40,282, on the basis that the 3,358 persons employed part-time are counted as half that number of units. Of those now employed, 3,486 possess National Service Officer powers.
