HC Deb 21 December 1944 vol 406 c1977W
Mr. Riley

asked the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to the state of privation under which large sections of the civil population of Yugoslavia are now living; to the great shortage of all kinds of medical supplies, food and clothing; that large sections of the people cannot work upon the land because of the lack of clothing; and whether, in view of the urgency of these conditions, he will take up with the Allied Military Command in the Mediterranean the necessity of supplying some shipping for the transport of supplies.

Mr. A. Henderson

The need for relief measures in Yugoslavia has been realised and has received careful consideration for some time by the Allied Military Command in the Mediterranean. Stocks of relief supplies, including food, clothes and medical supplies, were accumulated within the theatre in anticipation of the liberation of the country. As soon as the Dalmatian ports were cleared some supplies were landed. I have no precise information as to the latest position but inquiries are being made.
