HC Deb 21 December 1944 vol 406 cc1981-2W
Mr. Rhys Davies

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when it is expected that the body inquiring into wage-earning children will report; and whether the Report will be published.

Mr. H. Morrison

As I informed the House in answer to Questions put to me by the Noble Lady the Member for Sutton (Viscountess Astor) on 21st June and 27th July last, I invited all local authorities throughout the country to give me information on the working of the present provisions of the law about employment of children and for any suggestions, based on their practical experience, which they wished to make for its amendment. In the light of the information given by the replies from the local authorities I propose to arrange for consultation between representatives of the local authorities, and the Ministry of Education and the Home Office, with a view to seeing how far agreement can be reached as to future policy.
