HC Deb 21 December 1944 vol 406 c1966W
Mr. Mander

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the lack of maternity accommodation in Wednesfield and of the desire of the Wednesfield Urban District Council and the Wednesfield Council of Social Service that provision should be made for hospital accommodation of this type in terms that have been communicated to him; and what action he is taking.

Mr. Willink

Wednesfield is for maternity and child welfare purposes part of the county of Staffordshire. There is undoubtedly a need for more permanent maternity accommodation in the county which will be met as soon as labour and materials permit. In the meantime I am examining with the County Council the actual extent of the need and the best means of meeting it. We shall be assisted in this by the report on the Hospital Survey for Staffordshire, which I hope to receive shortly, and I shall also bear in mind the suggestions made by the Wednesfield Council of Social Service.
