§ Mr. W. J. Brownasked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he will give the numbers of each of the following grades of established staff in Admiralty and Out-ports now serving with His Majesty's Forces who have been given notional promotion under the Civil Service in absentia arrangements: clerical assistants, clerical officers (Treasury class), departmental clerical officers, pensioner clerks and pensioner writers, respectively.
Mr. AlexanderNotional promotion to members of the grades mentioned has not yet been made in the Admiralty, but investigation into the recommendations made by the various Admiralty Departments is now proceeding, and notional promotion to those who are judged qualified therefor will be announced very shortly. In the meantime the position of those members is not prejudiced as, in the event of the death or invaliding of an absent officer, he will receive the superannuation benefits appropriate to the higher rank for which he is adjudged to be notionally eligible:
