§ Sir J. GriggI do not admit that there is an anomaly. The retired pay scale for the combatant regular officer is designed for officers who undertake a normal career as combatant officers in the Regular Army, and different considerations enter into the provision for retired pay for the regular soldier who is promoted to an emergency commission for the war period.
